In the early hours of 18 July 2009 in North Epping, New South Wales, newsagent proprietor Min Lin, age 45; his wife, Yun Lin, 43; their sons, Henry (12) and Terry (9); and Yun Lin's sister, Irene Lin (39), were bludgeoned to death.

On December 29th, 1952, Tom married the former Mary Eileen Shea in Amherst, moving to Lachine, Quebec following their wedding . They had been married for nearly 72 years when Mary passed on November 3rd, 2023.

Lin was married to Daniel Wolf (1955–2021), a photography dealer and collector. Her sister-in-law was the philanthropist Diane R. Wolf (1954–2008). She has homes in New York and rural Colorado, and is the mother of two daughters, India and Rachel.

Later career

In 2007, Lin became a visiting lecturer at the USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism. In 2012, Lin joined the Los Angeles County Probation Department as a spokesperson. In 2015, she moved to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department to direct their strategic communications unit.

On 22 July 2022, Lin and his six-year-old son Jenson were injured in a car accident but were not in critical condition. Both father and son are currently doing well as they received treatment at a hospital.
